CHEFA's original mission was to provide access to tax-exempt debt for private, non-profit higher education insitutions. Since then our mission has been expanded to include all non-profit education insitutions. CHEFA has financed projects for all but a few of Connecticut's private non-profit higher education institutions, the Connecticut State University System and the UCONN Foundation.

By financing their capital projects through the issuance of tax-exempt debt, these institutions have been able to strengthen their balance sheets by focusing their fundraising efforts on endowment and unrestricted net asset growth. Access to low cost tax-exempt financing has also allowed many institutions to significanlty increase financial aid and tution discounts.
